A lil something for you
“It matters where you go”

Smoothed-barked apple and grey mongroves
We wander southwest along the river and uphill
Scratched lines and tree lines
Traces of you everywhere we go

This is an offering for Teadhg and Bowie I’m making soon in the bush.

It’s Bowie’s hair wrapped in all the beauty that Teadhg is.

The moon there in the blue sky
When that Saturday finally came
When we drove you in playing The Pixies
And you fucked with the stereo again
You didn’t like Debaser that day
You skipped it on, so it seemed
You decided as we drove you
That you’d prefer that we played Lou Reed
You messed with our lights and speakers
You made me crawl under the roller door
There were so many glitches and oddities
That it was you laughing I’m sure
I’m sorry I was your funeral director
I’d far rather be just telling you jokes
Having you berate me for vaping
And then insist I have one of your smokes
Your mum means more to us than music
More than wine and laughter and fire
So we’ll sing with her when we drink to you
Sending cigarette (and vape) smoke up higher
It's askew, a world that you're not in
It's a blue sky dressed with a moon
So if I flick on my Bluetooth
Mate, can you pick out the tune?

Love you. X

Teadhg, my first best friend. We were like twins growing up.

You were like a brother to me and Sandy, and such a special part of my childhood.

I’ll always remember you riding your skateboard along the footpath outside our apartment block, or playing your drums so loudly that even from the top floor, I could still hear you downstairs.

And every sleepover somehow ended with us watching “Unaccompanied Minors” again.

I still can’t believe you’re gone.

We’ll miss you forever

Teadhg I love you, rest in peace

2007 - 2026, forever 18

a boy i will never stop loving, who never stopped loving who had no more loving left but still gave it all, he was clever, kind, charismatic, complicated, wise, well-travelled and so so so gorgeous in his heart and soul and presence.

he deserved more life and deserves to live on forever.

he taught me to be more curious about the world, how much you can learn from just stopping and listening to people, that there’s always a new thing to appreciate about life and that every day is a blessing to be carried as heavily as it needs to be. i don’t know where i would be without him.

i always saw him in mountains, the ground, ants, trees, fog, fire and so so so many other things, now more than ever, the rain. he had a piece of my heart attached to him from the moment i met him and i will forever be so grateful for the time we had.

I remember you as a little boy, it would have been 10-12 years ago. I learned so much about you listening to all the people that love you and witnessed your life. Your soul was in a hurry to get to the next journey.. As a mum, it breaks my heart. I feel for you kate and your sister Phoebe.. you are in my thoughts and prayers.
I lit a candle for you Tig so you can find your way in the infinite sky.
Lots of love to all your beautiful friends and family 🙏🏼⭐️🌟⭐️

Bye sweet boy.
Blown away by the words, the love and the depth of sentiment aimed at you now … as a grown up off on your next adventure.
Friday, your day of big farewells and new beginnings, was a day here that we will all remember. The love for you so palpable. I will be there for your devoted Mum, my dear friend. You mean the world. Run free in your beautiful and creative life above, looking down at us in this crazy complex one. You are so missed. Skateboards, Ninjas and cricket fill my memories, though I’m certain you’ve moved on. Big love Teadgh, say hi to Toots and Suz for me, until we meet again ♥️♥️

Even though I only met you 6 months ago, you were so kind and meaningful.
It feels impossible to think that the world has lost a person who had so much beauty in his heart.
You were a flower that bloomed no matter where it was, and meant so much to those who saw you. When I think of the time I got to spend with you, I think of how appreciated and heard I always felt when I spoke to you. I think of the smile that came to my face and yours when I arrived somewhere and saw that you were there too. I think of how you looked out for me and cared so much all the time.
You'll never be forgotten and always be loved in life and beyond it.

Thank you for letting me in even when it was hard. Thank you for sticking around for so long and helping with more than I could know.
Knowing you was an honour and I don’t regret a moment, thank you for always sharing your opinions.
Thank you for bringing so many wonderful people into my life.
You are loved, always have been & always will be. Unconditionally.

I miss you Tiggy

It hurts so much.
What a light you shone.
And what a ride you gave us
Packing everything into those 18 years.

Close to the edge, you pushed boundaries
Not to be contained,
a waterfall of energy, a blast of fire
the settling hard to find.

You were driven
Not to tick boxes, but to challenge them
You saw something we could not see
And oh so fearless, you trod that ground
One step in, one step out.

It was jaw dropping, and scary at times
You were repelled by my fear,
And taught me to quell it
"It’s ok mum, I’ve got this
Everything’s fine."

But in the day-to-day,
Thru the lens of the world I live in
It wasn’t.

I tried to enter your world
Walk in your shoes
The boots that traversed Sydney’s streets
Delivering, shaking up sameness, joining disparates with another, running from trouble
The partying, dancing, mosh pits, and peeps
The life and danger you faced square on.

Anarchy made sense to you
And deep compassion
You dove into the human experience
Seeking philosophers, lovers and losers alike.

With an endless hustle for money
A relationship with the dollar
That held no future plan.

I ruffle through things salvaged from your life
Your excellent records and a thousand CDs
A wooden heart clasped when little,
3 fuggles, one with a switchblade stashed in its back
a slew of drumsticks, your beat eternally tapping
and dumb bells -- you were so intent on packing weight ….

The pixies, bojack horseman, a beautiful boy, and candy
all revisited a thousand times these last couple of years

Your playlists, a taste in music eclectic and wide ranging
Yet on the drive to school, you blasted my ears with hard metal
Rage screaming through the clang.
I can hear you laughing now
"C’mon mum, get into it."

You wanted ppl to look within,
Smash self-imposed prisons
And see something else, in you, in ourselves, in all of us
Your friends’ words at Camperdown Park last week testimony to this
You helped them see what was good about them
Gave them confidence to be better…

But baby, you gave so little to yourself.

Don’t get me wrong
I know you knew exactly what you were doing
You could articulate it brilliantly,
An astute observer of your own life…
Then go out and smash it all up,
Leading to crisis after crisis.

Like two in one body
One part not talking to the other
Or not able or caring to join it up.

My baby,
Although we spooned and held on tight
I could never get enough hugs with you
Each one warm but a wisp of air that could not be contained
The membrane was thin
Your grounding on the earth, light.

So serious and sensitive when young
You dove deep early with laser-like focus,
and with sensory issues compounding
Finding sincerity, loyalty, and paths well-worn became harder.

"I need a lawyer", you said in primary school.
And you did --
Advocating on your behalf to teachers, parents, the other kids
-- the world at large
To those that just didn’t, couldn’t, would never get you

Later, when loneliness set in and making friends was tricky --
As a misunderstood guy,
Bullied and teased,
fighting fierce to be heard…
You found humour
And learnt to wow a crowd.
You were funny as fuck.

And those that found you, loved you
And those that loved you, had to love hard
Bc you tested us all
Stretched us with your shock and awe
Your flights, your crashlandings, your return to do it all over again
But a little bit more this time, a little bit more.

You were always a little different
Walking between two worlds
A preoccupation with death early on
A darkness seemed to follow

Medically diagnosed and over prescribed too young,
You understood recently it was your gateway
And without the self-preservation of a stop button
You were out of control.

Our control.

Maybe you were controlled by others who also walk close to the edge?
I shook involuntarily the day the thugs came around
out of my depth talking them away from your door -- a poor diversion, unlikely to stick long.

The knifes in your apartment found after you left us,
In spots hidden, here and there,
Testament to your preparedness,
Ready for their return.

Walking freely through the streets had gotten harder
Your fuck-it-all gate a police magnet for unrecorded harassment.

The closing in, the world getting smaller, the nowhere to turn,
Disappearing for a spell, seemed a good plan.
But you also feared what was inside of you
Couldn’t see what we saw -- the excellent rich loving human you are.

You wrote in your notebook last year:

'People say looking in the mirror is hard,
they don’t like or don’t recognise themself,
but for me,
disassociation, depersonalisation, un-realising the reality that coincides within and without me,
has been something I held with comfort.
I remember looking down at my hands at 12, on pills I didn’t understand, not knowing they came from my body.
I have felt this way since.
And now I’m left, alone and sober
and I feel betrayed by the person I was when using
because I don’t know where the time I had to recognise myself went.
(I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HIM)'

Teadhg, we were so close to getting out of town,
And the assistance you were seeking for the first time,
and were determined to see through
– to pop out the other side and go to Cuba, do stand-up comedy, assist kids in a similar boat, and write more poetry…

The last hurrah gone wrong.
It wasn’t meant to be this way.

Teadhg, I am so proud of you
I couldn’t have loved you more
And I was looking forward to the young adult you were to be
And the older guy, at 30 or so, I could also see
That energy you carried,
creating a vibe to ride
A warm settling of the firey ants within
A breadth of depth, care, and comfortable languid stillness
– the perfect company.

But you knew more than I did,
You walked between two worlds
And the worst that could happen, happened.

But you continue to be here
Your smell around us -- sandalwood scent, sweat, cigarette smoke and street,
Not-so-specials from your shrine flying to the floor,
loud blasts of music from speakers quiet,
The ‘Knock Knock Knockin on Heaven’s Door' was particularly quirky!
We sense your laughter at our wide-eyed pauses
We feel you.

Like in the early stage of pregnancy, my breasts hurt when you passed,
and reminded me of a recording made when you were 6.

You said,

"The ppl who die in your family, they still in your tummy now.
Except when you die mum, they turn out to be like me when I crashed landed into the earth in that… missile launcher (?)"

You continued,

"The actual thing is, there’s nothing sad about earth,
there’s nothing really scary about dying.
We’re all dead but still alive with our eyes open - it's dead but alive."

‘A boy born remembering’,
‘One from between the worlds.’
a friend versed in these matters translated.

Everyone touched by my boy knows --
Teadhg is a vibe
a teacher
a drummer
a comedian
a politician
a dissident
a loyal friend
a romantic
a poet
a lover
a confider of the intimate
an unraveller of what we make to be human.

Teadhg is fearless and stubborn,
A forger,
And a mystery I will endlessly attempt to untangle.

I’m sorry we couldn’t walk that path with you buddy
I hope you reached the sun
I love you to pieces, a trillion times over
And will miss you forever.
Thank you, for everything.

"When a poet dies
A poet who was sun
Bright and warm
Searing truth
Hopeful rays
We
Whose ears were blessed
Whose souls were healed
Whose hearts were held
By their words
We
Flicker in the darkness
With the stars they planted
In our breath
We
constellations of memories
Shining tears of gratitude
Pulling us closer to each other
In honor
In grief
In love
Rest well dear poet
We carry your light"

I am so sorry. I still remember hanging out in that Canberra bunk room with you and Teadhg, Kate, and walking with you both while he skated the next day. I didn't really know him. Not properly. And that's the part I can't escape, because reading his words, hearing about who he was, I genuinely think we would've resonated. Same music taste, same kind of creative headspace, the same way of seeing things that most people can't quite put into words. I even found out after he was gone that he loved TOOL, I've already got them on my car. That connection was there without either of us ever knowing. It's a strange kind of grief, mourning someone you never got the time with. But it's real.

I just feel late. Like the window to actually know him was there, and I never made it in time.

To his family, I'm so sorry. I don't have the right words for something like this, but I mean that with everything I've got.

I've got a lot of love sitting in me right now with nowhere to put it. And a lot of regret for time that's gone and can't come back.

I love you Teadhg.

I'm lost for words. A beautiful wise boy. He taught me some Buddhist wisdom when he was 7. "Write your troubles on a note and put them in an envelope and post them away." Sending you all love.

So many hearts are holding you close right now. Teadhg was clearly deeply loved, wild, beautiful, unforgettable and free. May all the love being shared carry you gently through this unimaginable loss. ❤️✨

A funny, acerbic, observant, left field abstract thinker.

You all tried so so hard . A gem . A boy from somewhere else who has gone somewhere else .. so so damned sorry
